An absolute must try! I kick myself for waiting so long to try this Japanese gem. An average exterior lends to the surprise that awaits you inside. Koen offers an impressive interior that is decorated quite impressively. The staff is knowledgable, helpful and super friendly. We began at the bar and waited for a drink. Not long mind you. The bar tender prepared us for the up coming experience. Experience is definitely the word here as it is just that. Depending on what you order, you have the option to sit at a table where you grill your own meal. The menu is vast but don’t worry they will guide you. The food was excellent, flavorful and for the most part very healthy. Im into the Keto diet and Koen has everything you need to eat well while servicing your taste buds. Its not everyday you have fun eating but thats a great description of Koen. Take a friend thats having a birthday! You will love what comes next!!!!
Went there on a Friday night. Moderately busy but the waiter was very engaging and friendly. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the main entree was pretty small. 4 different meats at 2 oz each is 8 ounces, which seems like a decent amount but it only came with literally 3 asparagus. Will definitely go back though!
Koen was closing early due to slow traffic. I personally eat here almost every week, sometimes twice a week! Decided to go here on this snowy day in Lincoln, NE! Arrived and noticed a early closing sign on the door. Drove almost 30 minutes to get there without knowing & the staff informed me, but after explaining the drive and the inconvenience. They cut me short and welcomed me on in. Very polite, very welcoming, same 5 STAR SERVICE as usual. Made me love this place even more. The manager was very patient, didn’t rush me to eat. My waiter was EXCELLENT. Wasn’t in a rush to go home, asked me to enjoy myself and let him know if I needed anything. They were also starting closing procedures but continued to check in to make sure I did not need anything. I said all this to say, THEY ARE AWESOME! I recommend this business to anyone who is looking for a good time and 5 STAR SERVICE. I also attached a picture of my food here below to give those who haven’t went yet a idea.
I decided to try Koen Japanese BBQ and Sushi tonight after a recommendation from a friend. I went with one of their individual multi course grill meals, the Koen Kirin. The first course consisted of miso soup and a garden salad with a carrot ginger dressing. After that was a three piece order of gyoza made with pork and cabbage. The gyoza was much larger than I thought and was really good. The main course took a little longer, but was worth the wait. My main course consisted of hangar steak in a miso sauce, top sirloin with soy sauce and garlic, spicy pork belly in a sweet and spicy gochujang, and chicken in a savory/umami marinade. It also had sweet potato and I ordered an additional single portion of toro beef in a sweet soy sauce. Overall everything was delicious and I enjoyed the experience of being able to grill the meats. My server Michael did a fantastic job as well. I definitely plan on coming back again. I wish they had a location closer to me in Omaha!
We went here to celebrate my granddaughters winter dance showcase. We had the Premier. Virtually everything was incredible. It was the best dining experience I've had in a very long time.
However we arrived at 805 for an 800 reservation and still had to wait 15 minutes.
The size of the table prohibits full enjoyment of the food. I understand everyone needs to be close to the grill but there wasnt enough room for the food on the table top.
We sat at a four top with a plastic screen between us and the next conjoined table. The gentleman beside me kept shoving his left foot into mine because there was no partition separating us and pushing his things under the partition. I don't know what the remedy to that is.
This was our first time at Koen and I was very excited to give it a try. When we walked in we saw a chalkboard by the door with drink specials listed. We chose to be seated with the grills. When our server came, we asked him what the drink specials were, he was unaware there were drink specials listed at the front door. After a bit of a conversation, he went and checked and then was able to tell us about the drinks. We ordered the Premier to share. Our starters came very quickly. The Miso soup was okay. The Shrimp Tempura was amazing and so were the Lobster and Crab Rangoons. The Mango sauce served with the Rangoons was so tasty, I wish I could have a bottle of it. The BBQ items and Broccoli came out. The meat was good, the Broccoli was definitely out of place in the meal. For dessert we had Tempura Cheesecake. I was not real impressed with the dessert. I will be back, I want to try the Sushi. I did have two Chocolate Martinees and highly recommend them.
I recommend the Koen Sapparo as for $25 you get everything and more! It’s delicious and comes with great starters. The staff here is great and megan our server was very speedy and polite. The only bad thing I have to say is it was quite hot inside and it made it difficult to enjoy my food. Overall it’s a great spot and definitely a place i’d go back to for a first date/family outing.
Went for dinner and the waitress didn’t greet us for 20 minutes, then routinely didn’t come to check on our waters throughout the night. In top of that, the restaurant plays LOUD birthday music over the speakers and turns on strobe lights for birthday celebrations. This happened 4 times during the 1 hour we were there. Ridiculous and ruin the date night atmosphere. We thought it was a nice place, but good lord we won’t be returning for a meal there. The music was so loud I couldn’t hear my husband talking from across the table even if he yelled.
